The Merchant String Quartet was formed 2 years ago by four members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, keen to explore the quartet repertoire when their busy schedule permits! They have already performed extensively in London and the Home Counties and the Ashover Festival, Derbyshire. They have also joined forces with other members of the orchestra to perform sextets by Brahms and Schoenberg and the Mendelssohn Octet. They have given workshops at several London schools and recently gave a concert at Kingston University and coached it's music students. The quartet has been given a residency in Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church and took part in last summer's Chichester Festival to which they have been re-invited.
